Time Spent Dismounted...

Remember this guy?

The quote is by A.D. Wintle, famous London eccentric. I'm sure I'm taking the quote out of context, but that's life.I also redesigned the traditional Blackwork man to be a bit more suggestive.

So the point of all that is that the pattern is now for sale in my Etsy shop. Yay me!

I could be done with The Cheat by now, but ended up sleeping for twelve hours straight (it's been a really exhausting week), thus not waking up until 11:45! Sigh. Oh well. Technically I could have gotten more done last night, but I wanted to be sure the color was going to work out so I only stitched a few rows in the last color as it was dark.

no more funny

Well I finished the A.D. Wintle piece. I think it turned out really well. That might be something I keep for myself. I really don't get attached to keeping my finished pieces, even the ones I absolutely love. I just have a need to obsessively stitch in order to distract myself, so I do.

I'm going to do the family rules pattern in shades of blue, with the non-red parts of the flowers in the darkest navy. I think that will be nice but I'm feeling a bit hesitant about it. Given that it's a family/happy thing I don't want to do it in just black and red.

Opinions?

back to the humour

Well I'm back to stitching something funny that's not an in-joke! That's where I like to be.

After this I'll start my family rules pattern. I also got the material for my Understood Betsy book cover.

I've been running around too much for various reasons (not so much for myself) and have been SO tired. I made a nice hash for breakfast though, as I really wanted something *real* to eat. It had sweet onions, garlic, grated sweet potato, cubed white potatoes, and Chesapeake Bay seasoning. I made it in the oven, so it didn't really tire me, and I swear it's the only thing that kept me from crying.

Blistering Barnacles!

Well here's Captain Haddock, all done. I do like the way he turned out. I would start working on a full body pattern for Haddock but I don't think it would work well, as Haddock's face is always more expressive than Tintin's.

Today I finished a pattern using the A.D. Wintle quote "I am never bored when I am present," which I love. That quote pretty much sums me up.

I also did some cleaning and visiting with an old friend from high school. We stayed in touch for a couple years, but he fell off of Livejournal and we haven't talked in six years or so. He works just a few blocks from my building though! I had such a wonderful time and I'm so happy we're still alike. I meet so many people who I think I'll get along with, but 10 minutes into a conversation they make me want to scream. Wonderful to sit and visit with someone I really get on with.

Also this 'family rules' pattern is for sale in my Etsy shop! I'll be starting to stitch it myself this weekend, so eventually I'll have a lovely finished picture for the listing (this is just altered so that pattern can't be easily stolen).

I also want to start the matching napkin for the Royal Winton Queen Anne chintz tea cup. So much work to do + apartment inspections! Ahh!

things in bad taste...

My dad often gives me recommendations for things with the added warning that said article is in bad or questionable taste. This is similar to how he enjoys many of the British shows I share with him (Still Game, Father Ted, and Black Books among others) but feels he needs to add the bad taste quotient, just to maintain "old guy" credibility perhaps.

In any case, I know he'd say the same about this piece using the A.D. Wintle quote. Truthfully it's not the type of piece I would normally do either but I just so enjoyed the quote and the fact that I couldn't find any context for it. Who knows how Mr. Wintle meant this, perhaps he was speaking of horses. I shall never know, but I do love it in this context.

Tomorrow should be a pretty inspiring day in terms of crafting. In Athens, Ohio an art museum called The Dairy Barn hosts a quilt show every other year (alternates with a bead show). I've gone with my mom before and we're going again tomorrow. There are a few things I did as a kid (not a tiny kid, but a kid) that just belonged to my mom and me, which isn't all the common for those of us with four older siblings. This is one of those and it's always an amazing show.

Plus I love being in Athens. One place my dad lived we had to drive through Athens to get there. We stopped on the way there and back every other weekend, so even though I never lived in Athens I know it very well and I'm very attached to it. Ohio University is located there so it has great shops and restaurants, plus a lovely little park with a small stream where my dad and I would sale paper boats we'd made. It's a happy place for me.
